Panipat, February 3
The construction of an 11-km stretch from Sanjay Chowk in Panipat city to Sanoli on the Panipat-Haridwar Highway, which was in dilapidated condition for many years, has finally begun.
The Haryana State Road Development Corporation (HSRDC) is constructing the four-lane stretch at a cost of Rs 75.77 crore. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar laid the
foundation stone of the project on January 24.
The HSRDC has allotted the tender for the construction of the four-lane road from Sanjay Chowk (now Vande Matram Chowk) to Sanoli, which would be connected with the Panipat-Haridwar National Highway Number 709-AD. The stretch will be 15 m wide.
The potholed Panipat-Haridwar highway was a threat to commuters’ lives for many years. Residents, shopkeepers and leaders of various political parties had been protesting the dilapidated condition of the road.
The Panipat-Haridwar highway connects the textile city to Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Hundreds of people of Panipat go to Haridwar daily via this road. Apart from this, thousands of ‘Kanwariyas’ pass through the road every year in the ‘Shrawan’ month. The condition of the road was the worst near the marble market here.
MP Sanjay Bhatiya said people who go to Haridwar would benefit from this project. A big industrial hub is being developed on this road and the people working in these industries would also be benefitted. It was an outstanding demand of city residents, he said.
Ajit Singh, DGM, HSRDC, said the work order for the construction of the Panipat-Sanoli road of 10.11 km had been allotted to the Sarvodya construction company. As per the tender agreement, the construction work has to be completed within 15 months, he said.
The company has started the work from the NH-709 AD bypass near the Sanoli road. The shifting of electricity poles, cutting of trees and construction of divider block has been started.
“The problem of water-logging on the road is due to the improper levels of the drains on both sides of the road. These drains would be constructed again by levelling it properly,” he said.
“Apart from this, the road from Sanjay Chowk to Babbail Naka will be recarpeted and new dividers will be constructed on this stretch,” DGM Ajit Singh said.
