A group of 62 contractual assistant professors at Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa, has appealed to the university administration for regularisation of their services. These professors, who have been working for seven to 21 years in various departments, highlighted their contributions to teaching, research, and administrative work.

The representation, addressed to the university Registrar and key stakeholders, outlines the professors’ demands and provides a detailed overview of the current teaching faculty situation at the CDLU. According to the professors, out of 143 government-approved sanctioned teaching posts at the university, 76 remain vacant, while 62 are occupied by the contractual professors. In addition, 97 part-time teachers are employed to meet the institution’s academic requirements.

Dr Rakesh Saini, a law faculty member at CDLU and one of the signatories of the representation, expressed the collective concerns of the group. “For years, we have been working with dedication and fulfilling all responsibilities on a par with regular faculty members. Despite this, we continue to face professional uncertainty. Our appointments followed all prescribed procedures, and we have consistently contributed to the university’s academic excellence,” he said.

The professors argued that their appointments adhered to constitutional principles of equality and non-discrimination, as outlined in Articles 14 and 16 of the Indian Constitution. They urged the administration to recognise their efforts and grant them the same benefits as regular faculty members, including annual increments, dearness allowances, and various leave entitlements.

The representation also requested the university to include the issue of regularisation in the upcoming executive council meeting, scheduled for January 27. “We are not just employees; we are pillars of this university. Our contributions have been vital to its growth and reputation and we deserve fair treatment and recognition,” added Dr Saini.
