Contractual professors seek job security in state varsities
A delegation from the Haryana Universities Contractual Teachers Association (HUCTA), led by Dr Krishan Kumar, Dr Rajesh, Dr Jagdish Chand, Dr Vandana, Dr Indu, Dr Poonam, Dr Minakshi, Dr Kuldeep Kumar, Dr Raghvinder, and others, met Sirsa Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sharma and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, during the Assembly session.
The delegation requested job security for contractual assistant professors, highlighting that while they supported permanent recruitment, the recent layoffs of 35 resource persons during a regular recruitment at Indira Gandhi University (IGU) Meerpur, Rewari, had created fear of job loss among contractual professors in other universities as well. The situation was causing anxiety among the professors who had been working for years as temporary staff and they feared for the future of their families.
Dr Krishna Kumar said the Chief Minister had promised job security for contractual professors, similar to the security provided to guest teachers and extension lecturers in the universities. The professors were hopeful that the promise would soon be fulfilled. They also suggested that if the government planned to recruit new staff, they should fill up the vacancies from existing contractual positions.
