The Dujana police have registered a case against a group of car-borne youths for allegedly attempting to run over a police officer, obstructing law enforcement and assaulting a public servant on duty. The incident occurred at a naka near Dighal Toll Plaza late last night.

The FIR was lodged based on a complaint by Exemptee Head Constable (EHC) Tarun Kumar, who was part of a police team checking vehicles following an alert from the control room.

In his statement, Tarun Kumar said around 7:30 pm, a VT (vehicle tracking alert) was received from the Jhajjar control room regarding a black Scorpio carrying suspects involved in a firing incident in Rohtak.

“Acting swiftly, my colleagues and I began checking vehicles coming from Rohtak. When we signalled a black Scorpio to stop, the driver tried to run over me. However, they had to halt the vehicle due to the toll plaza ahead,” he stated.

According to Tarun Kumar, two young men stepped out of the vehicle when it was forced to stop.

“As I approached to check them, one of the boys suddenly pointed a pistol at me. I reacted quickly and struck the gun with my hand, causing it to fall,” he said.

However, before the police could take action, the suspects ran back to the vehicle and sped off towards Jhajjar, abandoning the pistol at the scene.

“There were 4-5 men inside the Scorpio. They first tried to run me over and later attempted to shoot me with the intention to kill,” Kumar added.

Sub-Inspector Rakesh Kumar, incharge of Dighal Police Post, said efforts were underway to identify the accused.

“We are analysing CCTV footage and other evidence. The suspects will be arrested soon,” he assured.
