A Gurugram-based social media influencer has accused a police constable, posted on a PCR unit, of stalking her and misusing official access to trace her car number. The accused then allegedly sent her a friendship proposal on Instagram. An FIR has been registered against him and he has been suspended. According to the complaint filed by influencer Shivangi Paswani, the incident occurred around 12.30 am on September 21, when a PCR vehicle allegedly followed her car. Fifteen minutes after she reached home, a comment appeared on one of her reels from a fake ID named ‘Simran Chopra’: “Ma’am, are you the same person who came to RD Colony 15 minutes ago?”
Paswani said the constable obtained her personal details through her vehicle number. “After this, the cop contacted me, asking me to befriend him. When I filed a complaint at the cyber police station, instead of taking action, they asked me to block the policeman… After this I took the matter to social media,” she said.
She later posted a three-minute video on Instagram recounting the incident. The video has since gone viral, garnering over 32,000 views and 2,000 comments, many from women. “I was shocked to hear this. How could a PCR officer, who is employed by the government for our security, record my live movements and send me a message like this? … Now I am about to turn 50, does it mean that even at this age I have to protect myself from these things? What would be the condition of those young girls who are younger than me?” she asked in her video. Responding to her post on X, Gurugram Police said, “Legal action has already been initiated against the delinquent, including registration of an FIR. Simultaneously, departmental proceedings have also been set into motion. It is further made clear that the matter shall be pursued with utmost seriousness.”
