Cops attacked during raid in Yamunanagar village, three injured
Accused fires at SHO, four arrested; prime suspect still on the run
A police team was allegedly attacked by several persons in Kot Majri village, under the Chhachhrauli subdivision of Yamunanagar district, late on Tuesday night, leaving three policemen injured, including the SHO of Chhachhrauli police station.
The team had gone to the village to arrest Parvinder Singh alias Pinder, who is wanted in multiple cases, including khair wood smuggling. During the operation, the accused allegedly opened fire at the SHO with a country-made pistol, but he had a narrow escape.
In his complaint, Rohtash Singh, SHO, Chhachhrauli, said Parvinder is involved in several criminal cases.
“We received information on Monday night that Parvinder was seen roaming in his village. Acting on the tip-off, I, along with other police personnel, reached Kot Majri to arrest him,” said Rohtash Singh.
As the police tried to apprehend the accused from a village street, his family members arrived and attacked the police team with bricks and other objects.
“They attacked us with bricks and stones. I, along with driver Harpreet Singh and Jagmal Singh, sustained injuries. Parvinder also fired a shot at me from an illegal weapon, but I narrowly escaped,” the SHO added.
The main accused managed to flee, but police arrested four persons involved in the attack — identified as Nirmal Kaur, Pravinder Kaur, Kulwant Singh and Dalip Singh alias Bunti.
The arrested accused were produced before a court in Bilaspur on Tuesday and remanded to judicial custody.
The police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest Parvinder Singh, the prime suspect.
