The markets in the textile city, which are geared up for the festival season, are witnessing a huge footfall of customers. To decongest the markets in the city during the festival season, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhupender Singh banned the entry of autos, e-rickshaws, four-wheelers and other heavy vehicles in markets from 10 am to 8 pm.

The initiative has been taken after holding a meeting with the members of Samyukt Vyapar Mandal (SVM), in which presidents of various market associations participated. Following the meeting, Suresh Saini, DSP (Traffic), visited various markets along with association presidents to make a plan for the smooth flow of traffic and hassle-free movement of shoppers.

The SP said as the crowd in markets was increasing with each passing day, there was possibility of rise in traffic snarls on main roads of the city.

“The vehicular movement has been completely banned from 10 am to 8 pm in Insaar Market, Halwai Hatta, Gurmandi, Pachranga Bazaar, Shah Market, Amar Bhawan Chowk and Chaura Bazaar. Shopkeepers can bring goods in markets before 10 am or after 8 pm,” he said.

Action would be initiated against shopkeepers, who have given space in front of their shops to rehri owners for money, the SP said. Illegal rehris parked in front of shops created traffic snarls in the city, the SP said.

He appealed to city residents to park their vehicles in designated parking lots under the elevated highway and come to markets on foot.

Special nakas would be laid at 17 places to maintain law and order situation in markets, he said.

Barricades would be erected at entry points of Red Light Chowk, Palika Market cut, Gurdwara cut, Pachranga Bazaar, RBL cut, SD College cut, Amar Bhawan chowk, Animal Hospital street, Delhi juice corner cut, Kamal Furniture cut, Salarganj Gate, Old Housing Board Colony, Gur Mandi, Veer Bhawan Chungi, Khail Bazaar and Bank street to stop the entry of vehicles in these places, the SP said.
