Corporates to help improve NAAC rankings of colleges

- Out of a total of 109 colleges assessed under PRAYAAS, a Haryana-specific rating system for its colleges, only nine have been ranked as A+ while 24 are in A category
As many as 30 colleges have been categorised as B+ while 46 have been placed in the B category

The Haryana Government has roped in the corporate sector to get improve National Assessment Accreditation Council (NAAC) rankings of government colleges.
The initiative under the government’s flagship Programme for Apprenticeship in Higher Education and Learning (PAHEL) is set to be rolled out in 34 government colleges for which 11 companies have already been shortlisted.
Education Minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar today said the initiative was part of government-industry partnership which was ultimately aimed at improving the quality of education in government colleges across the state. The Education Department has already scheduled a meeting with representatives of private firms whose areas of expertise included infrastructure, information technology (IT), manufacturing, banking and healthcare at Panchkula on March 19.
Officials said modalities related to designing new skill sets required for industries, corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, industrial visits, on-job training and placement will be discussed at the meeting. Besides, memorandums of undertaking (MoUs) would also be signed with the companies to firm up a strategy to implement the programme in letter and spirit, officials said.
To improve NAAC rankings of its colleges, the state government recently introduced Performance Rating Yardstick for Academic and Audit Standards (PRAYAAS), a Haryana-specific rating system for its colleges.
