Corruption in MC a hurdle in Panipat City’s growth, alleges Cong’s Bulle Shah
Varinder Kumar Shah, alias Bulle Shah, the Congress candidate for the Panipat City Assembly constituency, has attacked the BJP over “corruption” in the Municipal Corporation. The BJP nominee Pramod Vij, who represented the constituency in the previous state Assembly, however, claims that he has launched several key projects in the city, including construction of underpasses, bypasses, community centres and dharamshalas.
Shah said “corruption” in the MC stood as the main hurdle in the city’s development, due to which several problems of the city residents had remained unresolved.
“These elections are meant to bring about a change in the system that would lead to the formation of a strong and answerable administrative structure to protect the public interest,” Shah said.
Shah addressed the gathering at Patel Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, New Housing Board Colony, Jagannath Vihar, Pachranga Bazar, Mukhija Colony, Khera Chowk, Sector 18, Vikas Nagar and Pathan Mohalla during his campaign in the constituency.
He also targeted the BJP over poor sanitary conditions, ineffective drainage system and frequent traffic jams in the city. He said property IDs, Parivar Pehchan Patras (PPP) and several other portals launched by the BJP had become nuisance for the residents, he said, adding that all these would be stopped after the Congress government would form the government in the state.
Shah further said that he had entered the electoral fray only to fight against the corruption and appealed to the voters to vote for the Congress to support him in the fight against corruption.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate Pramod Vij held public meetings in Sector 12, Jagannath Vihar, Assandh road, Shastry Colony and other areas on Sunday. He said all factions of society had promised him their utmost support, and that the people had decided that the state should have a BJP government for the third term in a row.
Taking a dig at the Congress, the Vij said his party never made false promises to voters. He said he had brought several key projects in the city that included the construction of underpasses, bypasses, community centres and dharamshalas, and beautification of roads.
He said if he won the elections, he would ensure that development works were carried out on a large scale and that these were expedited.
He also appealed to the residents to vote for the BJP on October 5, and said that their votes would pave the way for the development of the city.
Adding spice to the contest is former MLA Rohita Rewri, a Congress rebel. She and her husband, Surender Rewri, have been equally critical of the Congress as well as the BJP. Rohita has promised the residents that she would ensure that development work would be undertaken under her in the city if she is voted in.
