The Gurugram police have arrested five persons — a couple, two delivery boys and a butcher, for allegedly selling banned meat online in a housing society near Sohna. Around 40 kg of meat was recovered from their possession, following which an FIR was registered at the Bhondsi police station.

All the accused were produced in a city court on Monday, following which they were sent to judicial custody. Meanwhile, the butcher has been remanded in police custody. The arrested woman was let off on bail after she joined the probe.

“The recovered meat has been sent to the lab for testing. Once the report comes, it will be clear as to which animal the meat belongs to. A further probe is underway,” said Badshahpur ACP Surender Phogat.

According to the police, the matter came to light on Sunday when the security of Global Heights Society located in Dhunela village near Sohna got suspicious of both the delivery boys who had come with two sacks. When the sacks were checked, officials found meat packed in black bags that were brought in from Nuh for online sale.

Locals and Gau Raksha Dal members reached the spot and alleged that the couple was supplying cow meat. They used to bring cow meat from Nuh and supply it illegally in various areas of Gurugram.

According to the complaint filed by Gaurav, chief security officer of Global Heights Society, and Adesh Khatana, member of Gau Raksha Dal, said around 5:00 am, two delivery boys wearing Swiggy jackets and T-shirts came to the society. The security guards, Satveer, Bharat and Sikander, stopped them for checking. During the search, they found plastic bags in them. When they opened them, they found meat filled in small black polybags. When the security guards got suspicious of the delivery boys, they called the suppliers living in a flat in Tower 5 of the same society.

During the initial interrogation, the woman living in the flat revealed her husband’s name as Mukhtar, a native of Bengal. During questioning, it was revealed that she used to bring meat from Rozka Meo in Nuh at night on her scooter.

After registering the FIR, the police arrested Mukhtar, his wife, the two delivery boys and the butcher, Asgar, who is on police remand now.

“We are questioning Asgar and waiting for the report,” said Inspector Chanderbhan, SHO of the Bhondsi police station.
