In a bid to curb illegal mining in Mahendragarh district, the Haryana Mining Department, in collaboration with the district administration, has intensified inspections across the Aravalli region. Officials have been conducting surprise raids to prevent unauthorised extraction of soil and gravel.
An official spokesperson revealed that on February 17, two separate cases were registered against landowners and vehicle owners involved in illegal mining on panchayat and private land in Mausampur and Biharipur villages. Additionally, a case was lodged on February 9 against individuals mining illegally along the boundary of Sohla village.
Strict action has followed these inspections. On February 18, authorities recovered Rs 1,49,826 from those engaged in illegal mining. Furthermore, on February 14, a fine of Rs 3,20,500 was imposed on truck owners caught transporting illegally mined materials.
The district administration has urged locals to refrain from illegal mining and report any such activities to authorities. "We appeal to the public to provide information about illegal mining so that action can be taken as per the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT)," said the spokesperson.
