In a bid to maintain urban cleanliness and prevent sewer blockages, the Rohtak Municipal Corporation has launched a crackdown on dairy operators illegally dumping cow dung and animal waste into drains and sewer lines.

As part of the drive, the civic body has issued sealing notices to six dairy owners found violating sanitation norms in the Gandhi Nagar area. They have been given a seven-day window to submit their responses; the failure to do so will result in further action by the authorities.

Anand Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of municipal corporation, said during routine inspections, several instances were recorded where dairy waste was being flushed directly into the drainage system. This unsanitary practice, he said, had led to sewer overflows, foul odours and environmental pollution, causing inconvenience to the residents.

“Disposing of cow dung or any solid waste into sewers or drains is a punishable offence under the Municipal Corporation Act. Such acts lead to blockages, environmental hazards and public health concerns,” Sharma added.

The commissioner said prior warnings were given to the dairy owners. At a previous meeting with representatives of the Dairy Association, municipal officials had instructed all operators to manage dung disposal responsibly by maintaining functional pits within their premises for waste collection. Despite these guidelines, non-compliance continues to pose a significant challenge.

Sharma further said the MC would take even stricter action in future, including permanent sealing of the dairy units if such violations persisted.

“Any dairy operator found repeating this offence will be solely responsible for the consequences. Public cooperation is crucial to keep the city clean, healthy, and beautiful. The MC is committed to improving sanitation in the city and urges all residents and business owners to adhere to proper waste disposal norms,” said the commissioner.
