Crackdown on illegal dairies in Karnal, four sealed, Rs 50K fine imposed
The Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) carried out a major crackdown on Friday, sealing four dairies that had failed to shift to the designated Pingli dairy complex despite several notices.
MC Commissioner Vaishali Sharma said the action was taken against the dairy operators who repeatedly ignored official notices and continued running operations from within residential areas. The sealed dairies include two in Ram Nagar and one each in Jyoti Nagar and Shiv Colony.
As part of the operation, six animals were taken away from the sealed premises. A fine of Rs 50,000 has been imposed on the dairy owners for the release of these animals. The animals were tagged on-site by the Animal Husbandry Department team and have been shifted to the gaushala.
The drive was led by Deputy Municipal Commissioner Abhe Singh, Duty Magistrate and Executive Engineer OP Kardam, with a heavy police force.
The sealing was carried out under Section 333 and the animal seizure under Section 332 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, she added.
Sharma highlighted that repeated notices had been sent to the violators, urging them to relocate to the Pingli Complex. The MC has made extensive arrangements at the new complex, including electricity and water connections, road development, lighting facilities and even free soil filling up to 3 ft for dairy foundation work.
“So far, 35 dairies have been successfully shifted to the complex, and nearly 80 more are under construction,” said the Commissioner, emphasising the corporation’s commitment to urban cleanliness and order.
