Credit card fraud: Two held for duping a man of Rs 1.07 lakh
The Kaithal police have arrested two persons allegedly for duping a man of Rs 1.07 lakh by impersonating a credit card officer and sending a fraudulent WhatsApp link. The accused have been identified as Kapil, a resident of Gurana in Hisar district, and Rahul, a resident of Sisai village, said police spokesperson. Two more accused have already been arrested in the case.
As per spokesperson, Pawanpreet, a resident of Gobindpura village, filed a complaint, alleging that he had a Visa credit card of IndusInd Bank. On June 25, 2024, he received a phone call from a person claiming to be a credit card officer from the bank. The caller informed him that a monthly charge of Rs 1,200 was applied to his credit card and offered to assist in stopping it.
Believing the caller, he agreed, after which he received a WhatsApp link. O opening the link, he was prompted to fill in his credit card details. Shortly after, Rs1.07 lakh was deducted from his credit card in four separate transactions. When he tried to contact the caller again, the phone went unanswered. Following this, a complaint was registered at the cybercrime police station. A team led by the SHO, cybercrime police arrested the accused.
