Crime against women down by 35% in Jhajjar last year: Police chief
Jhajjar Commissioner of Police B Satheesh Balan claimed that the district had witnessed over 35 per cent decline in the crime against women in over nine months compared to the corresponding period of 2023 after the establishment of the Jhajjar Police Commissionerate in March last year.
“A total of 328 crime cases against women, including rape, molestation and domestic violence, were registered from April 1 to December 31 in 2023, but the number reduced to 210 in 2024. It happened due to strategic initiatives such as hotspot monitoring, enhanced patrolling and deployment of undercover personnel.
The introduction of the Durga Shakti app and round-the-clock monitoring service has particularly strengthened women’s safety during transit,” said the Commissioner in a press release.
Balan said similarly, vehicle thefts cases declined up to 8 per cent from 492 cases to 453 last year, while the robbery cases dropped from 48 to 31 in 2024. The department’s aggressive stance on violent crimes led to a considerable reduction in the murder cases. A total 48 cases of murder were registered between April to December in 2023 while the number came down up to 28 in the corresponding period of 2024 after the Jhajjar Commissionerate came into existence, he added.
“A total of 90 criminals, including most wanted and bail jumpers, were arrested and 614 kg cannabis was also seized in 2024. Newly established cyber police station recorded a 64 per cent increase in registered cases while the recovery of fraudulent funds increased up to Rs 1.40 crore, marking a 25 per cent improvement in 2024 over 2023. The cyber unit also arrested 152 persons,” the Commissioner said.
