The CIA-2 unit of the Kurukshetra police has arrested a wanted inter-state criminal and recovered a revolver, six live cartridges and fake identity cards of the police and the CRPF from him.
The accused has been identified as former CRPF constable Sunil Kumar, alias Fauji, a resident of Kurukshetra, and he was involved in several theft and loot cases in various states. He was produced in a court, which sent him to a five-day police remand.
Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said the CIA-2 unit got a tip-off that Sunil Kumar, over the last few days, had been roaming in Karnal, Kurukshetra and Chandigarh, and that he was carrying a loaded weapon. The unit was informed that Sunil carried fake police IDs and wore police uniform while committing thefts. Acting on the information that he was on his way from Chandigarh to Kurukshetra, a check post was established near the Pipli bus stand and Sunil’s vehicle was intercepted. Fake ID cards of Haryana Police, CRPF, Punjab Raj Bhawan, besides fake PAN Card and other fake documents were recovered from his vehicle. A revolver and six live cartridges were also found. The SP said Sunil had committed crimes in Telangana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The Rajasthan Police had announced a reward of Rs 5,000 on him, while the UP Police had announced a reward of Rs 15,000.
As per police, Sunil had joined the CRPF as a constable in 2007 and remained in service till 2016. Meanwhile, he duped several people in the name of recruitment in CRPF, and when the commanding officer came to know, an inquiry was launched against him. After getting leave in 2015, he didn’t join his duty again, following which he was dismissed from service.
CIA-2 in-charge Mohan Lal said Sunil had been an active criminal since 2018. He was booked in an NDPS case in Kurukshetra. He came in contact with criminals in jail and after coming out, he was involved in loot cases in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and other states.
