CUH warns of legal action against law academician

The Central University of Haryana (CUH) here has warned of legal action against Haryana Higher Education Council member Prof KPS Mahalwar (retd), who resigned from academic council of the university while claiming that an associate professor, who was indicted in a molestation case, had been selected in the department of law.
An email from the office of the CUH Registrar on Monday states that Mahalwar has publicly made unsubstantial allegations and maligned the image of the university as names of the selected candidates are yet to be declared. The Registrar’s office asked Mahalwar to disclose the source of information, on the basis of which he described the selection as “unethical”.
“Since the result of the selection process is yet to be declared, making such a serious allegation against the university and addressing your email to all members of the university authorities and its officers is premature. The content of your email and your version has been made public through press reports, which is not only unethical but also illegal. The university may initiate appropriate legal action in this regard,” reads the email.
When contacted, eminent law academician Mahalwar told The Tribune that being a member of the academic council, it was his moral duty to raise the voice if the university took an unethical decision.

Mahalwar made light of the warning issued by the CUH. “I am not bothered about such warnings. I have raised my voice as my intention is to protect the academic system from deteriorating.”
Ram Dutt, CUH Registrar, confirmed that a letter had been issued to Mahalwar.
