Cybercrime awareness session held for students

A cybercrime awareness programme was organised on Tuesday by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa.

The event aimed to educate students about the growing threat of cybercrime and the importance of digital safety.

Subhash Sihag, Station House Officer of the Cyber Police Station, Sirsa, was the chief speaker. He explained various types of cybercrimes such as phishing, hacking, online fraud, cyberbullying and misuse of social media.

Sihag said simple precautions like using strong passwords, avoiding suspicious links, not sharing personal information and keeping devices updated can help protect individuals from online fraud.

He also shared real-life examples to show how cybercriminals trap unsuspecting users and informed students about the national cyber helpline number 1930 and the government’s cybercrime reporting portal www.cybercrime.gov.in.

Students alerted on perils of drugs

The female Station House Officer (SHO) visited ITI College, Sirsa, and Ram New Satluj School, Shakti Nagar, Sirsa, to educate students about the harmful effects of drug use. She explained that drugs not only affect a person’s physical and mental health, but also have negative impacts on their family and society.

The SHO urged students to stay away from drugs and to spread awareness among those around them about the dangers of drug use. She emphasised that young people should avoid drugs and make themselves and their parents proud. During her interaction with the students, she also highlighted that India’s strength lies in its unity and integrity and it is every citizen’s duty to protect and maintain it.
