In Karnal, a rally was flagged off from NDRI Chowk by Indri MLA Ram Kumar Kashyap. “Sports not only teach us the spirit of discipline but also keep us fit. Every person should devote some time to sports to remain fit and energetic,” Kashyap said while addressing participants. He said under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre had been encouraging the youth to actively participate in sports through initiatives like the three-day National Sports Day celebrations.

Highlighting Major Dhyan Chand’s contribution, the MLA said the hockey wizard brought glory to India by winning three Olympic gold medals and continues to inspire generations.

Karnal Mayor Renu Bala Gupta also joined the event and underlined the importance of the Centre’s Khelo India and Fit India initiatives, under which sports complexes and nurseries are being developed across the country. “Haryana athletes are excelling on the world stage because of the improved facilities and government support,” she said. Before the cyclothon, dignitaries paid floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand.

In Kaithal, a cyclothon was flagged off by Pundri MLA Satpal Jamba from Chaudhary Chhotu Ram Indoor Stadium. He himself rode a bicycle to motivate the participants.

“Sports is a powerful medium to connect youth to positive activities. Our government is developing stadiums, sports nurseries and yoga centres across Haryana to encourage healthy lifestyle,” he said.

Jamba urged the youth to follow road safety rules, wear helmets while riding two-wheeler and adopt discipline in sports activities. On the occasion, he administered an oath to players to stay away from drugs and contribute to building a strong and healthy nation.
