Dabwali MLA pushes for district status
Dabwali MLA Aditya Devilal has submitted a memorandum to Haryana Cabinet Minister Vipul Goyal, requesting that Dabwali be granted the status of a full-fledged district. The memorandum was presented during Goyal’s visit to pay homage to late Om Prakash Chautala. Members of the Dabwali District Formation Struggle Committee were also present on the occasion.
The memorandum highlights several key points to support the demand. Dabwali is Haryana’s largest subdivision, covering 1,058.33 square km and comprising 71 villages. Despite its size and population, residents face challenges due to its 60-km distance from the Sirsa district headquarters. The memorandum argues that creating a district would improve administrative efficiency and accessibility for the region’s people.
The document emphasises that Dabwali, located on the Punjab-Rajasthan border, holds strategic importance. The area already functions as a police district, and further upgrading it would address governance challenges. Additionally, the proposal points out that other towns in Haryana are located within 40-45 km of their respective district headquarters, unlike Dabwali, which is significantly farther from Sirsa.
Statistics presented in the memorandum include a comparison of Haryana’s districts by area, showing Sirsa as the largest with 4,277 square km, while Dabwali already has a larger geographical area than many existing districts. The MLA also highlighted that Dabwali’s population had grown steadily, surpassing 3 lakh people, according to projections based on the 2011 census.
Aditya Devilal reiterated that the demand to create a district was not new. The proposal was previously raised with former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, but it remained unfulfilled. The memorandum requests that the Haryana government reconsider the matter and act swiftly to address the long-standing demand of Dabwali residents.
Members of the Dabwali District Formation Struggle Committee expressed hope that the state government would prioritise the issue and take necessary steps to establish Dabwali as a district. They emphasised that such a move would not only benefit the local population but also enhance administrative efficiency in the region.
