Hisar: Dalit activist Rajat Kalsan arrested twice in a day
Dalit activist and lawyer Rajat Kalsan was arrested twice on the same day in connection with two separate cases, one filed in Hansi and the other in Hisar.
In the first instance, Hansi police arrested Kalsan in connection with a complaint filed by a man named Sushil, who alleged that the activist had circulated a video accusing the victim’s family and the police of corruption and misconduct in the Budana case. Acting on the complaint, Narnaund police registered an FIR under multiple sections of the IPC.
Kalsan was presented before a court, which granted him bail in the matter.
However, soon after being released, he was rearrested by Hisar police in a separate case involving charges of manhandling and obstructing police officials.
The Hisar case stems from an incident that reportedly occurred on Wednesday night, when police visited Kalsan at Hisar’s Auto Market to serve him a notice related to the Budana case. According to police, a scuffle broke out during the visit, in which Sub-Inspector Ravikant sustained injuries.
“Following the incident, a case was registered, and Rajat Kalsan was taken into custody,” said a Hisar police spokesperson.
SHO Balwan Singh of Narnaund police station confirmed the sequence of events: “Kalsan was granted bail in the Budana case but was then immediately detained by Hisar police in the case of assaulting a police officer.”
The Hisar police spokesperson said Kalsan will be produced in court tomorrow.
