Chandigarh, May 26

Home Minister Anil Vij said with the implementation of the Haryana Recovery of Damages to Property Act, protesters would now pay for any harm done to public property in guise of any movement.

Vij said the notification of this Act had been issued by the state, after which it had been enforced. He said carrying out protests was part of democracy but it was incorrect to harm property in guise of it.

He said a tribunal would be set up in this regard, which would take up such complaints and act against the offenders. He said the parties, who were opposing this Act, should clarify whether they were in favour of those who burn shops, houses, government offices, trains, buses and other public property or were in favour of those who had suffered in violent acts. — TNS
