Daring daylight robbery: Family preparing for wedding held hostage in Karnal
Around five armed men storm the house in Subhash Colony; groom shot, jewellery and cash looted
In a shocking incident, a family preparing for the wedding of their son was held hostage and the groom shot by armed assailants during a daylight robbery in Subhash Colony here on Monday. The robbers escaped with cash, gold, silver and ornaments worn by the women, and valuables from a car parked outside the residence.
As per the police, the incident took place around 8:20 am when around five armed men forcibly entered the house. They reportedly opened fire without warning and held the family hostage at gunpoint. During the chaos, the groom, Aditya Pasricha, who had recently arrived from Australia for his wedding scheduled on December 4, sustained a bullet injury. He is stated to be out of danger.
The robbers ransacked the house and fled with jewellery and other valuables. The family, still in shock, has yet to ascertain the total loss.
Superintendent of Police Ganga Ram Punia, along with multiple police teams and forensic experts, reached the spot and began an intensive investigation.
“This case is our priority. Our CIA teams and cyber experts are working aggressively to crack it at the earliest. Cash and jewellery have been looted, and one person is injured but out of danger,” SP Punia said.
Residents of the area expressed shock at the daring daylight crime, calling it one of the most disturbing incidents in recent years. Police teams are scanning CCTV footage, and a manhunt has been launched to trace the suspects.
Hours later, police arrest 5 people
The Karnal police solved the robbery case within hours and arrested five people. The suspects were apprehended from Zirakpur, and the police are bringing them back to Karnal.
The police traced the accused with the help of the GPS installed in the family's car, which had been stolen during the robbery.
The accused later abandoned the vehicle in the city.
CCTV footage also played a crucial role in tracking the suspects’ movements.
After abandoning the car, the criminals boarded an e-rickshaw and then took a bus in an attempt to flee.
However, police teams continued tracking them closely, a senior police officer said.
