A day after local Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra raised concerns in the Vidhan Sabha about the poor condition of toilets at the PGIMS-Rohtak, the authorities at the health institute swung into action on Friday.

PGIMS Director Dr SK Singhal accompanied by Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Kundan Mittal conducted a surprise inspection to check the cleanliness and sanitary conditions within the institution.

He inspected the toilets at Ch Ranbir Singh OPD, the ones near the emergency department, those near the dental college and the toilets around the canteen. During the inspection, he identified several issues and immediately ordered the Public Works Department (PWD) B&R staff to address the shortcomings.

Singhal shared details of the inspection, stating that the main objective was to assess the cleanliness and quality of healthcare services at the institute. He encouraged the PWD B&R staff to maintain high standards of cleanliness and healthcare services. Singhal further emphasised that if the identified deficiencies were not rectified promptly, strict actions would be taken against the officials concerned.

The Director expressed hope that the inspection would lead to significant improvement in the cleanliness and quality of services at the PGIMS. He also instructed the Medical Superintendent, DMS, sanitation, security, and nursing superintendents to work on improving the cleanliness.

Singhal directed the sanitation staff to follow specific guidelines and asked the Medical Superintendent to assign cleaning responsibilities on a zonal basis. “Each zone will have an ANS as the in-charge, responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and reporting to the Medical Superintendent daily,” he added.

Singhal reiterated the need for improving cleanliness and ordered all departments concerned to ensure that hygiene standards were met. He hoped these actions would lead to better services and a more efficient environment at the PGIMS-Rohtak.

Dr Kundan Mittal, the Medical Superintendent, clarified that designated areas for parking private ambulances had been set up near the OPD and Civil Surgeon’s office. He warned that any private hospital ambulances found parked in front of or near the emergency department would lead to strict disciplinary action against the security personnel responsible for allowing the parking.

Notably, Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra in Vidhan Sabha on Thursday submitted several photos to the Health Minister, showing the condition of toilets in the wards at the PGIMS, public toilets outside the OPD, and the toilets inside the OPD. The staff toilets in the OPD were also in a deplorable state. Batra clarified that he was not making any accusations but was seeking solutions. He pointed out that there was no RO system installed in any of the wards.

Batra stated that this was a case of mismanagement. He urged the Health Minister to conduct a surprise inspection to assess the situation. He emphasised that the PGI- Rohtak was a prestigious institution and attention was needed for providing facilities to patients.
