Sonepat: Professor Prakash Singh, the Vice-Chancellor of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST), said the nation was marching towards the category of developed countries and special attention was being given to science and technology. It is only through science and technology that we could make the developed, the V-C said. Prof Suman Lata, head of the chemistry department, said all scholars of her department were doing quality and their papers were being published in reputed journals. Under the guidance of Dr Sonia Nain, Sudha Narwal, Ankur Sura and Amanvir Singh, a new type of luminescent powder has been developed by the department. With the help of this material, blue and white LEDs can be designed, she said.
V-C urges caution on use of AI
Hisar: Professor Narsi Ram Bishnoi, the Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), Hisar, said the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) was increasing in research and development. However, there was a need to be cautious in the use of AI by researchers, he added. Interacting with the researchers of the computer science and engineering department, he said the academic performance of any institute is judged by the quality of research done by its scholars.
Students excel at Khelo India
Yamunanagar: Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Yamunanagar, brought laurels to the institute by winning various positions at the prestigious Khelo India University Games, held at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. College principal Harinder Singh Kang said Tamanna, Muskaan and Reshma had won gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively, in weight lifting. Tamanna won the medal in 87-kg category by lifting a weight of 201 kg, Muskaan won the silver medal in the +87 kg category by lifting a total weight of 183 kg and Reshma’s remarkable performance won her the bronze medal in the 81-kg category as she lifted a weight of 186 kg.
Contests on stubble management
Kurukshetra: Indira Gandhi National College, Ladwa, organised poster-making, slogan-writing and essay writing competitions on crop residue management. The competitions were held under the joint aegis of the National Service Scheme unit of the college and Chaudhary Charan Singh Agricultural University, Haryana’s Agricultural Science Centre, Kurukshetra. A total of 150 students participated in the competitions. College principal Kushal Pal said Haryana was an agricultural state and the burning of stubble was a crucial issue here. He said the objective of the competitions was to raise awareness on the burning of paddy stubble and attempting to vie for eco-friendly alternatives.
