Congress MP Deepender Hooda today launched a scathing attack on the BJP, alleging widespread corruption in the AMRUT scheme.

Speaking at a series of poll meetings to rally support for Congress mayoral candidate Surajmal Kiloi and party’s councillor candidates, he asked the BJP to fix the accountability in the alleged scam.

Deepender claimed a former BJP MP had stated that Rs 350 crore allocated under the AMRUT scheme in Rohtak was embezzled. The funds were intended for critical infrastructure, including drainage, water supply and parks, he added.

He alleged that contractors had laid pipes throughout the city without providing any actual water supply. He also emphasised the lack of clean drinking water and inadequate waste management in Rohtak, suggesting that the BJP’s corruption had directly impacted the city’s residents.

“The BJP’s triple engine of corruption has been involved in one scam after another but the government has failed to take action against those involved in the AMRUT scam. Despite having a so-called ‘triple engine’ of power, the BJP has only used it to loot the public,” the MP said.

Reflecting on the past decade, Deepender recalled that during the Congress-led Hooda government, Rohtak had emerged as a developed metropolis. In stark contrast, the last 10 years under the BJP had seen a decline in development.

Deepender also highlighted ongoing issues such as dirty potable water, which worsens in the summer, and the failure of the BJP government to address it. He accused the government of imposing excessive property tax and failing to maintain roads, with even basic patchwork remaining undone.

Additionally, the MP criticised the BJP for backtracking on its promise to regularise employees engaged through HKRN and for failing to pay the salaries of safai sewaks, further demonstrating the BJP’s unfulfilled promises.
