Congress leader Deepender Hooda today criticised the BJP government for not taking adequate measures to avoid severe waterlogging, even after experiencing a similar situation in 2023.

The Congress leader had reached Ambala to visit the areas in Saha, Ambala Cantonment and Ambala City, where severe waterlogging was witnessed due to overflowing of rivers and heavy rains.

Deepender said most areas of Haryana were badly affected by flooding. “Due to lack of drainage, the roads, agricultural fields and residential areas have been witnessing heavy waterlogging and life has been disrupted. It is sad that the efforts that should have been made by the administration for drainage on a war footing are not visible. Such a situation had arisen two years ago also, but the government seems to have learnt no lessons,” he added.

Deepender, who was accompanied by Ambala MP Varun Chaudhry, demanded that the government should immediately make arrangements for drainage in the areas affected by waterlogging, and the government should announce a compensation of at least Rs 50,000 per acre for the farmers.

He said that in the last 11 years, the BJP government did not build a single new drain or canal for water drainage. As a result, lakhs of farmers and people are suffering the consequences of BJP's ‘anti-people policy’. The problem of waterlogging is becoming worse every year in Haryana, for which the BJP government is completely responsible. In urban areas, dirty water got accumulated in colonies, markets and public places. The government should conduct a special survey of each house and order compensation to each family.

Deepender said, “Public sentiment was with the Congress in the Assembly elections as people wanted to form a Congress government in the state, but the BJP, in alleged collusion with the Election Commission, openly used all tactics and gained power. There have been widespread irregularities in the elections of Haryana as well, vote theft took place on a large scale and fraud was committed with the voter list. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has exposed the vote theft in front of the countrymen with evidence. The Congress will raise public issues strongly and fight for the rights of the people.”
