Chandigarh, April 16
The construction of a civil airport at Ambala is set to take wings with the Union Government finally calling a high-level meeting of all stakeholders in New Delhi on April 28.
To be chaired by Union Defence Secretary, the meeting would explore the possibility of setting up of the civil enclave (civil airport) at the Air Force Station, Ambala.
The civil airport is the brainchild of Haryana Home Minister and Ambala Cantonment MLA Anil Vij, who had been pleading for the establishment of the civil airport on the land a substantial portion of which falls under the jurisdiction of the Air Force Station, Ambala.
In February, Vij sought Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s intervention in the issues relating to land requirements for the airport at Ambala.
The project was approved in December 2018. The district administration and the Air Force authorities had had been holding parleys to work out modalities for the same. The infrastructure of the Indian Air Force, including the runway, is set to be utilised for the proposed airport on the Jagadhari Road.
