Karnal, February 20
The 37th convocation ceremony of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was conducted at the Regional Centre in Karnal, along with the IGNOU headquarters and 38 other regional centres across the country on Tuesday.
Manohar Lal Chhabra, Director of the Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Regional Centre, Karnal, was the chief guest, who conferred degrees and certificates upon 250 students out of about 20,000 eligible students for the 2022-23 academic year. Chhabra exhorted students to set goals and make dedicated efforts to achieve them.
Dharm Pal, Regional Director, highlighted the progress of the centre and mentioned that nearly 20,000 eligible students had completed various degrees and certificate programmes in 2022-23. Of them, they had invited 250 students for the convocation ceremony conducted at the regional centre.
He stated that the Regional Centre was established in 1989 in Karnal and had made a significant contribution to the higher education of students who could not pursue regular studies. “IGNOU is continuously contributing to the increase in the overall enrolment rate through the National Education Policy, 2020,” he added.
The centre began with 8,597 students, and currently, more than 80,000 students are successfully pursuing higher education under the IGNOU Regional Centre in Karnal, he said. He highlighted the increasing number of female students in different programmes.
