As many as 70 students of the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak are yet to deposit their fee even after the completion of their degrees from the institute.

They include students of BTech and MTech courses who completed their degrees in the 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic sessions.

Sources maintained that these students belong to the Scheduled Castes and their post-matric scholarships had been approved by the state government.

"However, they have not deposited their fee for the final year/semester as the scholarship amount is yet to be disbursed by the state authorities," said sources.

The sources pointed out that the total outstanding amount is Rs 42-45 lakh, adding that it would be substantially higher if the interest on it is also calculated.

"What to speak of the interest, we will be grateful if we get just the due amount from the government," said a university official.

Acting on a complaint lodged regarding the matter, MDU Registrar KK Gupta has sought the comments of Prof Yudhvir Singh, Director, UIET, in this regard.

Contacted for his comments, the Registrar said he was out of station.

Questioned about the matter, the UIET Director maintained that the students who had not got the scholarship amount in their bank accounts had not deposited the fee.

Asked about the inordinate delay of several years in depositing the fee by the students, Yudhvir said the institute office had instructed the students to deposit their fee as soon as they receive the scholarship amount in their bank accounts.

"We have written as many as 48 letters to the state authorities requesting them to release the scholarship amount and inform us if it has been released, but to no avail," the Director stated.
