Hisar, February 15
After the approval of the draft for the delimitation of wards of Hisar town, some former members of the Municipal Corporation have raised objections to it, terming it as “flawed and impractical”.
A delegation of 11 members, including MC members and other people from various wards, met Urban Local Bodies Minister Kamal Gupta at the PWD rest house today.
They stated that there were instances where one colony had been bifurcated into two wards. An MC member, Amit Grover, alleged that about seven wards had been wrongly delimited. The MC completed its term in January this year and the delimitation process has been undertaken for fresh elections.
Grover said New Model Town on the Delhi road had been divided into three wards as per the new delimitation plan. Similarly, wards number 13 and 10 had also been “messed up with”.
The former Deputy Mayor from Ward Number 5, Bhim Mahajan, and other MC members Udayveer Mintu (Ward Number 13), Sushil Sharma (Ward Number 20), Urban Estate Residents Welfare Association president Rakesh Arya, Virender Gupta, Sanjiv Sharma, Satish Soni and Aarti Thakur also objected to the delimitation draft.
According to the draft, Ward Number 16 has been changed to Ward Number 17 and vice versa. Localities of Ward Number 18, including Navdeep Colony, Adarsh Colony and parts of Professor Colony, have been shifted to Ward Number 19.
The sources said some of the members of the outgoing MC had raised objections as new areas had been included in their wards. “Now, these people will have to campaign in new localities to seek votes which were earlier part of other wards,” said an official.
Pradeep Dahiya, MC Commissioner, said this draft had been finalised by the ad hoc committee. It would be submitted to the state government for publication.
The ULB minister Kamal Gupta on getting the objections from people said that delimitation draft has aimed at forming the uniformity of the booths for polling during the MC election, Assembly polls and Lok Sabha poll. “Earlier, the area of one booth used to have a separate set of areas which has been uniformed now”.
