Hundreds of farmers today staged protest at Bhattu Kalan, demanding minimum support price (MSP), adequate supply of fertilisers and compensation for crop loss.

The demonstration was organised by the All India Kisan Sabha and led by district chief Vishnudutt Sharma.

He said large parts of Fatehabad district had been affected by waterlogging and saline soil, which had severely damaged crops. “Farmers are caught in a cycle of debt. Neither are they getting MSP in mandis, nor is the government providing any relief. Many are unable to even sow the next crop,” he said.

Farmers also raised concerns over shortage of DAP and its alleged black marketing by dealers. They said some traders were forcing farmers to buy unnecessary products along with the fertiliser. They demanded that fertiliser distribution be carried out through cooperative societies and strict action be taken against those involved in malpractice.

A delegation of farmers submitted a memorandum to Naib Tehsildar. They warned that if their demands were not met, they would intensify the agitation.
