Denied ticket by Cong, Tohana MLA joins BJP
New Delhi, September 2
Former Haryana panchayat minister and sitting Tohana MLA Devender Singh Babli today joined the BJP along with leaders Sunil Sangwan and Sanjay Kablana.
Babli’s BJP foray comes close after Congress general secretary for Haryana Deepak Babaria refused to grant him assurance for the ticket, saying he was not even a primary member of the party.
Babli had in 2019 contested Tohana Assembly poll on the JJP ticket and won by a margin of over one lakh votes. Babli had defeated then state BJP chief Subhash Barala.
Ahead of the current poll cycle, Babli was keen to get a Congress ticket from Tohana.
He had hoped that Kumari Selja, whom he helped in the recent Lok Sabha elections in Sirsa, would power his case.
The Congress, however, refused asking Babli to first join the party. Sunil Sangwan, former head of Bhondsi jail in Haryana, and son of former Haryana minister Surinder Sangwan, also joined the BJP today along with Kablana.
After the joining, BJP general secretary Arun Singh said the BJP would “100 per cent win in Haryana where the people are keen to re-elect the BJP for the third time and wipe out the Congress.” Also present at the function were Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli, BJP poll co-incharge Biplab Deb and former state unit chief OP Dhankar.
