Dense fog blinds Gurugram

Residents of Gurugram and its neighbouring areas woke up to a biting cold morning with dense fog that engulfed the region on Friday.

The weather department has predicted that the foggy weather conditions will continue for another three days, with day and night temperatures likely to remain below normal.

The minimum temperature recorded at Gurugram on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday was 9°C and it is likely to remain below 10°C for another few days. On Friday morning, it was 8°C.

The maximum temperature recorded on Friday was 17°C with sunshine in the afternoon. On Thursday, the maximum temperature was 12.7°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that cold wave will persist in the region for the next couple of days, after which the temperature is likely to rise by a few degrees. The IMD also stated that ‘dense to very dense fog’ would continue for the next three days.

The IMD has also issued an ‘orange alert’ for Gurugram and other parts of the NCR, warning of extremely low visibility due to dense fog in the next few days.

Further, the IMD also predicted that the Gurugram district might receive light to moderate rainfall on Monday, January 6. Till then, the visibility is expected to remain low.

Meanwhile, the latest figures of air quality in Gurugram shows it in the ‘poor’ category, with the AQI levels more than 200 in most of the areas. In Sector 51, the AQI was recorded at 290 and 238 at Teri Gram, while at Vikas Sadan it was 290.

Commuters on the highways and other state, district and link roads have been advised to drive their vehicles carefully.

Those on motor vehicles must use fog lamps as the visibility was likely to remain low, the weather department stated.
