A 20-year-old youth of Kharar Alipur village in the district, who was among the 104 deported persons from the USA, has lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that he was defrauded by three travel agents who had promised to send him to the USA on a legal work visa.

Akshay alleged in a police statement that he had paid Rs 50 lakh to the agents, who assured him of a legitimate journey to the USA through Dubai. He said that in June 2024, when he reached out to travel agents Deepak Malik, Rajat Mor and Munish Sharma, they asked for Rs 35 lakh for arranging his legal travel to the USA. The agents promised him that he would first travel legally from India to Dubai, where he would stay temporarily before being sent to the USA on a work visa.

The complainant said as per the agreement, he was sent to Dubai on July 18, 2024, where he was kept for a month. On August 23, 2024, the agents called Akshay’s family, demanding an additional Rs 30 lakh. They assured them that once the money was transferred, he would be sent to the USA within five days. The family sent the money to the agents on August 24, 2024.

Even after receiving the money, Akshay was kept in Suriname for another 20 days. When Akshay’s family inquired about his situation, the agents claimed that the flight to the USA would be arranged soon. But after more delays and false promises, he was sent illegally to the USA via Mexico, the complainant added. Upon entering the USA, Akshay was nabbed by the US border patrol and detained at the San Diego Detention Center.
