Though the state government and the Kurukshetra Development Board have been planning big to promote Kurukshetra as a major tourist destination, Brahma Sarovar continues to lack the evening attraction.

Despite being one of the major tourist points in Kurukshetra where lakhs of tourists reach here every year, Brahma Sarovar lacks evening attraction due to which a majority of the tourists leave Kurukshetra by the evening.

In 2023, to enhance the evening attraction, the then Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced a light and sound show for Brahma Sarovar and directed the Kurukshetra Development Board to get the show introduced. But the project continues to be in the proposal stage.

Honorary secretary of Kurukshetra Development Board Upender Singhal said, “The KDB and the government have been making sincere efforts to add new attractions at Brahma Sarovar and the other Tirthas. New coloured fountains have been installed on both sides of the roads leading to Pushottam Pura Bagh. While a trial run has been done, some work related to anchoring is being done and it is expected to be complete in a couple of days. The fountains are likely to be made operational in a week. There is already an Aarti Shtala at the Brahama Sarovar where evening Aarti is performed.”

“There is a proposal to start a light and sound show in which fountains will also be used. There is a plan to start the show on the lines of light and sound show at Jyotisar Tirtha. However, the show at the Brahma Sarovar will be bigger than the show at Jyotisar. Some decisions related to the project, including the base of the structure, are to be taken at the government level. After getting the directions, further action will be started and the storyline will be finalised. The matter will be discussed at the next meeting of the board,” he added.

To a query, the honorary secretary said, “There was a plan to start boating at the Brahma Sarovar but some religious organisations had raised objections. Respecting the sentiments of the people, the proposal was dropped.”

Meanwhile, Chairman of 48-kos Tirtha Monitoring Committee Madan Mohan Chhabra said, “There is a plan to introduce a light and sound show and it will definitely help us in adding evening attraction and making the tourist spend more time in Kurukshetra. All efforts are being made to get the show introduced here.”

Multimedia laser show approved in 2019

Earlier, a multimedia laser show at a cost of Rs 16 crore under the Centre’s Krishna Circuit Scheme was approved in 2019. The show was to be developed by the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and a tender was also awarded to a firm in 2020. But the project was scrapped due to a continuous delay and objection related to base of the structure.
