In a step towards transparency and digital governance, the Rohtak Municipal Corporation has launched a new online portal titled “Suvidha Manch”, designed to offer real-time data and updates on development projects across the municipal area.

“The portal will allow officials to view key details of any ongoing development project with just a single click. Information such as a project’s start date, expected completion date, total cost, terms and conditions, and percentage of work completed will be readily available on the portal,” said Dr Anand Kumar Sharma, Commissioner, MC, while speaking to ‘The Tribune’. He claimed that Rohtak had become the first municipal corporation in the state to implement such a portal at present.

“The portal will not only prevent duplication of work but also enable monitoring and evaluation of performance of the contractor concerned. Initially, the access to the portal will be limited to MC officials. However, in the next phase, departments such as Public Health Engineering and Public Works will also be integrated with it to ensure better coordination among all departments in executing the development projects efficiently,” said the Commissioner. The portal was officially launched at the MC office on Friday evening in the presence of Rohtak Mayor Ram Avtar Valmiki and other MC officers.

Speaking on the occasion, Valmiki said no additional expenditure was incurred in developing the portal — a significant achievement given the rising costs of digital infrastructure. Every project has its cost, but not this one. The MC officials have created this system without spending any money, the Mayor added.

“In today’s digital age, this portal will be extremely helpful in monitoring development work within the municipal limits. It eliminates the need for repeatedly going through files, as all data is accessible instantly. That’s why it’s aptly named Suvidha Manch — a platform for convenience,” Valmiki said.

Meanwhile, the commissioner informed that the MC was also introducing radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for door-to-door waste collection

“Under this system, the implementing agency will install RFID tags at every household in each ward. To ensure smooth execution, sanitation branch officials and staff have already been directed to make sure RFID tags are affixed to every house in their respective ward areas,” said Sharma.

He said, “When a garbage collection vehicle from the agency visits a house, the RFID tag installed at the property will be scanned. Once scanned, the data will be automatically uploaded to the Solid Waste Management (SWM) portal. This will make it easy to determine which households have had their waste collected and which have not.”

Sharma claimed that this technology would ensure complete transparency, accountability and accuracy in the city’s waste collection system. The corporation will receive daily reports on the actual sanitation status across all wards. “The aim is to make the city’s waste management system fully technology-driven and results-oriented,” he added.
