Devi Lal’s descendants vying to wrest three out of 5 seats in Sirsa
Five key Vidhan Sabha seats will witness a fierce political battle as 54 candidates have stepped into the arena in Sirsa district. The spotlight is on three constituencies where the descendants of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal are directly competing. The political equation, however, remains complex for the remaining two seats.
In Ellenabad, a direct face-off will occur between Abhay Chautala of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Bharat Singh Beniwal of the Congress. The Ellenabad seat is considered a stronghold of Abhay Chautala, but the Congress hopes to break his winning streak with Beniwal’s candidacy. Abhay Chautala previously won this seat in 2021 with a margin of 6,739 votes, but this time around, he faces stiff competition.
Meanwhile, in Dabwali, Aditya Chautala, Digvijay Chautala and Amit Sihag will clash in another highly anticipated contest. Digvijay of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) will face Aditya, a nominee of the INLD-BSP alliance and Amit Sihag of the Congress. The election here is expected to be a close contest, as the trio is well-established in the region.
Rania and Kalanwali in focus
The Rania constituency, where Independent Ranjit Singh and INLD’s Arjun Chautala are contesting, is also heating up. In the 2019 elections, Ranjit Singh defeated the Opposition with 19,431 votes and this year, he faces Arjun Chautala, aiming to reclaim the family legacy. Here, the Congress has brought Sarv Mitter Kamboj into the field.
In Kalanwali, the fight is mainly between Congress candidate Shishpal Keharwala and BJP’s Rajender Desujodha. Both parties have solid voter bases, and the result could go either way. The seat was previously held by the Congress.
Uncertain equations
In Sirsa constituency, HLP candidate Gopal Kanda is up against Congress’ Gokul Setia. On the one hand, Gopal Kanda is seeking support from INLD and BSP to retain his seat, and on the other hand, Gokul Setia, who gained popularity through social media, is ready to give him a tough fight. It’s worth noting that Gokul lost last time by just 602 votes.
With 54 candidates competing and political dynamics shifting, the elections in Sirsa are shaping up to be highly contested, especially with the involvement of Devi Lal’s descendants in three key constituencies.
