The members of SD Education Society — president Anoop Garg; Satish Chandra, chairman SDVM, HUDA; Mahender Aggarwal, treasurer Vishal Goyal and principal Anoopam Arora — were present during the programme.

Addressing the gathering, DGP Kapoor said as many as 1.68 lakh people lost their lives in accidents in the country in a year. Most of the accidents involved two-wheelers or pedestrians. The main reason behind the accidents was not wearing helmets, lack of knowledge and/or not following the traffic rules, Kapoor said.

Emphasising the need to follow traffic rules, the DGP said accidents were decreasing in foreign countries but not in India.

DGP Kapoor also emphasised the importance of books. He said that true knowledge comes from books and that is why the department favours the library culture. Every person should read at least one good book in a year, he said.
