Farmers have been staging dharna on the highway since December 25. In light of the violence during the tractor parade on January 26, the district administration had got the protest site vacated and appealed to religious organisations to end the langar sewa, which was suspended on Wednesday.

The next day, farmers restarted the dharna at the toll plaza. After several rounds of meeting with farmers, the district administration allowed farmers in small group to stage dharna.
