DHBVN recovers Rs 48 crore from defaulting consumers in 1 month
The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has recovered Rs 48 crore from defaulting consumers in the past one month in the Faridabad circle. The total amount to be recovered from defaulters with power connections is reported to be around Rs 176 crore.
The circle has around 6.76 lakh connections in the domestic and non-domestic categories and the payment defaults are around Rs 500 crore. The department had intensified the drive to recover the pending dues, official sources in the department said, adding that the target to recover an amount between Rs 125 crore and Rs 130 crore by March 31 had been set.
The pending dues during the current financial year are marginally up in comparison to the corresponding period of 2023-24 as one lakh consumers with regular connections are yet to clear dues of around Rs 176 crore.
In case of consumers whose power supply has been disconnected, the pending amount is Rs 320.11 crore. Of the total of 1,59,837 consumers against whom the dues are outstanding, 1,05,175 still get power through regular connections, it is reported. The power supply to as many as 54,662 consumers have been snapped over their failure to clear the dues to the tune of Rs 325 crore till December end.
An amount of over Rs 468.76 crore is pending against 1,59,018 domestic consumers. The government departments, such the municipal corporation, panchayat, FMDA, PWD, police, irrigation and tourism, among others, have reportedly defaulted on payment of around Rs 23 crore.
The mounting dues and the delay in recovery have been attributed to the pending litigation, untraced connections and change of address by many consumers. The authorities are unable to disconnect the supply to the majority of the defaulters due to legal hurdles and services rendered by the government departments or offices, it is claimed.
DHBVN Superintending Engineer Jitender Singh Dhull said due to persistent efforts, the pending dues of Rs 78 crore had been recovered in the past two months. The remaining dues would be recovered soon, he added.
