DHE to hone skills of Haryana college students

The Department of Higher Education (DHE) is going to start an online skill enhancement training programme at government colleges and polytechnics across the state. Initially, 20 government colleges of 18 districts have been selected for the purpose.

A college principal said the department had, in the letter, not specified in details about the fee, content and duration of the course hence the students were approaching him for their queries in this respect. Similar is the situation in other colleges, he added.
Sources said principals of all these colleges had been asked to take consent of their students who wanted to enrol themselves in the online skill development training programme subject to bearing 50 per cent cost of the course. They have been directed to provide the information about it within the next four days.
The colleges that have been selected for the programme include Pt Neki Ram Sharma Government College in Rohtak, Government Colleges for Women in Narnaul, Rewari, Palwal, Gohana, Panchkula and other government colleges located in Faridabad, Sector 9, Gurugram, Hisar, Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar, Jind, Kaithal, Karnal, Narnaul, Bhiwani, Sirsa, Ambala Cantt, Tohana and Panipat.
“The training programme aims at enhancing the students’ skill through a special training so that they can easily get the jobs in their field of choice after completing their education. Since it is an online training programme so the students will be able to undergo easily without moving to any other place,” said an official at the DHE.
A college principal on the condition of anonymity said the department had, in the letter, not specified in details about the fee, content and duration of course hence the students were approaching him for their queries in this respect. Similar is the situation in other colleges as well, he added.
“How can the students give their consent without knowing about all these aspects of the training programme? We will urge the headquarters to provide such details for the students,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dr Lokesh Balhara, Principal, Pt Neki Ram Sharma College, Rohtak, said they had informed the students about this new programme and they had been asked to give their consent if interested in doing it. “It is a good move for the students,” he added.
