Discharged from hospital, Cong’s Rakesh Kamboj resumes poll campaign
Congress candidate from Indri Assembly segment, former MLA Rakesh Kamboj, has resumed his election campaign after being discharged from the Medanta hospital, where he had been admitted for about a week. His return has injected fresh enthusiasm among party workers, who are now campaigning with renewed energy.
Kamboj, who is not only conducting ‘nukar’ meetings but also personally meeting prominent people in the constituency, is contesting against BJP candidate and former MLA Ram Kumar Kashyap. The two leaders are contesting against each other after five years. In 2019, Kashyap defeated Kamboj, who was at that time contesting as an Independent candidate. This time, however, Kamboj is fighting under the Congress banner.
During Kamboj’s absence, his elder brother Rajesh Kamboj, daughter Apurva Kamboj and key Congress leaders, including former ministers Bhim Sain Mehta and Karandev Kamboj, were campaigning on his behalf to ensure the momentum was not lost.
After joining the campaign, he expressed gratitude to the party leaders, workers and supporters. “I am grateful to the party workers, leaders and my well-wishers. We will definitely win,” said Kamboj while addressing a gathering.
Rakesh accused the BJP of ignoring the Assembly segment in terms of development. He alleged that the party divided people in the name of caste and religion. “The BJP kept people busy with property ID and family ID works to divert their attention from key issues like unemployment, inflation and poor condition of roads,” he said during a programme on Sunday.
Kamboj also highlighted key promises from the Congress election manifesto, such as provision of Rs 2,000 per month to every woman, LPG cylinders at Rs 500, a Rs 6,000 social welfare pension, re-implementation of the old pension scheme, creation of a drug-free Haryana and provision of 2 lakh permanent jobs to youth.
