Divers save 4 of family from drowning in Jamuna canal in Haryana

Five persons, including four members of a family, were rescued by divers after they were swept away in the strong currents in the Western Jamuna Canal (WJC) while taking a dip on the occasion of Ganga Dasehra here this afternoon.

One of them, a woman, has been admitted to a private hospital. Her condition is stated to be critical.

According to information, Neha, along with her 17-year-old son Akshit, and family members Babli and Kavita, and four other persons, were visiting a relative in Yamunanagar from Saharanpur district.

They went to the canal, situated close to Badi Majra village, for a dip, when suddenly Neha started drowning. Kavita and Babli tried to save her, but they were also swept away.

Akshit went to rescue them, but he, too, began to drown.

Madhavanand, a priest at a temple, situated close to the spot, jumped into the canal to save them, but the current was too strong.

Rajiv, a diver, told the media that Neha and Akshit had drowned and were pulled out after a lot of efforts, and she was taken to hospital.
