Traffic diversion from Baldi bypass onto the Indri- Yamunanagar-Panchkula and Chandigarh route has led to an increase in the number of heavy vehicles plying on the Karnal-Indri state highway. This diversion of vehicles from the national highway has highly inconvenienced residents of the adjoining areas and villages. They alleged that the chances of accidents taking place had increased manifold because heavy vehicles were seen plying the road at high speeds.
In view of the farmers’ protest, the Karnal police had begun diverting the traffic headed to Panchkula and Chandigarh from the Baldi bypass to the Karnal-Indri-Yamunanagar road. However, light vehicles were still allowed to travel on National Highway-44, and were diverted onto the Kurukshetra-Yamunanagar road from Kurukshetra.
Ashwani, a resident of Indri, said the Karnal-Indri state highway was an important road as it connected Karnal district to Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar, but due to the increased traffic, especially of heavy vehicles, the threat of accidents taking place had increased.
The already busy road passes through markets of Salaru, Darar, Ramba, Samora, Janesro, Norta, Indri, Ladwa and a number of other villages and towns.
