Divider off-centred, making road prone to accidents: Jind residents
The broken stretch on the newly built Rohtak road in Jind town has become an accident-prone zone. Residents have raised serious concerns about the deteriorating condition of the road. They claimed that the space constraints on one side of the divider was leading to frequent accidents.
A social activist, Rajkumar Goyal, who is president of Jind Vikas Sangathan, said that local residents had recently staged demonstrations to highlight the problem. He said that the Rohtak road was completed just about three years ago and it was already in a poor condition.
Besides, he said, the narrow space on one side of the divider on this stretch had become increasingly difficult for vehicles to pass through.
The social activist said that three years ago, after several protests, the road was constructed with a width of 10 m. However, the road needed to be expanded to 11 m to accommodate the divider. Instead of widening both sides equally by .5 m, the department concerned increased the width by 1 m on only one side, causing the divider to be placed off-centre.
As a result, he said, the space between the shops and the road became narrower, especially near Vishwakarma Chowk, making it hazardous for vehicles to cross. Goyal said that the matter was even taken up with the local MLA when he visited the area but no action was taken by the administration.
Goyal alleged that the condition of the road had worsened the scenario on this narrow stretch. “It has become an accident-prone area. Accidents occurred daily on this stretch,” he said. Goyal has urged the government and the administration to rebuild the road and ensure that the divider is placed in the centre to avoid further accidents.
