To mark the Diwali festival, Thanesar Municipal Council officials, alongside local residents, organised a sanitation drive near Devi Lal Park in Kurukshetra on Sunday.

Former Minister Subhash Sudha, who participated in the drive, urged residents to keep their colonies and sectors as clean as their own homes.

Speaking at the event, Sudha said, “The way we clean every corner of our homes during Diwali, if we become equally conscious about cleanliness in our city, the day is not far when our city will be number one in cleanliness. The government and municipal council are making efforts to improve sanitation, but achieving this goal is difficult without public participation. We must all act as responsible citizens by ensuring cleanliness around us and encouraging others not to litter.”

He added filth harms public health and damages the city’s image, emphasising the importance of cleanliness drives to address this issue. Sudha also encouraged residents to support swadeshi products.

District Municipal Commissioner Aman Kumar said efforts were underway to enhance sanitation. Residents attending the drive reported that some people arrive by vehicles to dump garbage near the park. They called for strict action, including issuing challans and requested the installation of signboards warning against littering.
