PGIMS Director Dr SK Singhal said yoga is a science and plays an important role in reducing stress and maintaining sound mental and physical health. He congratulated the Dean (Student Welfare), Dr MG Vashishth, and his team for organising the event.

Earlier, while welcoming the participants, Dr Vashishth advised them to adopt yoga even if they do physical workout at gyms, asserting that it relieves stress and anxiety.

The Head of the Public Health Dentistry Department, Dr Manjunath, pointed out that the residents of many countries are now adopting yoga, which is India's heritage.

Delivering a lecture on the role of yoga in hypertension and heart diseases, Dr Sudhir Atri, the Head of the Department of Medicine, observed that the biggest benefit of yoga is that it relaxes the body as well as mind.

“Yoga helps in calming the body and mind, reducing stress and controlling blood pressure. A yoga clinic is being run at the PGIMS, where anyone can come and learn yoga,” Dr Atri added.

Cardiologist Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma, who was invited for a special lecture on the occasion, said the lungs, brain, heart and arteries are interconnected and one can keep them healthy through yoga.

“We should do pranayam every day. Practicing meditation along with yoga and a balanced diet can help in leading a healthy and stress-free life,” he stated.
