The district administration has been on alert after the unusual surge in the arrival of paddy in grain markets even though there has been low yield this year in comparison to the last year.

The DC and the SP inspected the arrangements and checked vehicle records, ensuring that no truck carrying paddy from outside Haryana slipped through the border.

The DC instructed officials to step up vigil on highways and monitor suspicious vehicle movement, especially during night hours. “If paddy is being brought illegally from other states, strict action will be taken against those involved,” said Singh, adding “physical verification in rice mills is also underway.” SP Punia said the vehicular movement was being strictly monitored at the border checkposts round the clock.

Earlier, during a review meeting on paddy procurement operations, the two officers directed the officials that all CCTV cameras in grain markets must remain functional otherwise strict disciplinary action would be taken against officials concerned. The DC instructed all SDMs to immediately conduct physical verification of paddy stocks in rice mills and ensure that there was no discrepancy in relation to purchase, milling and dispatch records. “Any discrepancy would invite serious action,” he added. The issuance of gate passes has already come under scanner, and three officials of Karnal grain market have already been suspended.
