  • The town has slipped to the worst position it had in the last five years

Urban Local Bodies Minister Kamal Gupta flagged off garbage collection vehicles from the MC office today. About 40 vehicles have been deployed for the collection of garbage in these areas. These wards comprise posh localities of the town and include Sectors 13, 15, 16, 17, 9, 11, besides the Police Lines Area (PLA), localities on the Rajgarh road, Kaimari road, Tosham road, Urban Estate, Model Town etc. Gupta, who is also the BJP MLA from Hisar, said the measures were being taken as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

“This is part of the Clean Hisar, Healthy Hisar campaign. While the remaining city areas comprising Ward Numbers 1 to 10 were already covered under the household garbage collection facility, from today, the entire town has this facility,” he said, adding that the firm which had been given the tender of this work would also transport and dispose of the garbage.

Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said Green Concrete Construction had been given the work of door-to-door garbage collection for one year. “The firm will collect 116 tonnes of garbage every day from these 10 wards. The contract has been given to the company at the rate of Rs 1,840 per tonne, thus approximately Rs 7.80 crore will be spent annually,” he said, adding that the work had started from today (Monday).

The MC Commissioner said two garbage processing plants had been set up near Dhandoor village for all 20 wards of the city where the waste was processed daily.

Notably, Hisar town had fared poorly in the latest survey of Swachh Survekshan conducted by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs this year with a ranking of 194. The town slipped to the worst position in the last five years. Local MLA Gupta had taken charge of the ULB Ministry in December 2021.
